The Christmas holidays offer a plethora of pastimes far superior than scanning the latest news: opening presents, indulging in holiday treats, and harnessing deep breathing to not yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements emerged during the holidays, and if you missed some of them, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)

Truly the most shocking piece of news, the widely-criticized controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt the series' continuation. The show will return with a second cour in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a good sign. However, the main art for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, by now, they could be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now the community is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will very likely debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio famous for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Shortly after the airing of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara.
