Alleged Harasser Questioned: 'However What If I Am Madeleine?'
A female indicted with harassing Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a phone message which posed: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has repeatedly asserted she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court learned call records and data obtained from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over that period.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most publicized child disappearance cases and remains unsolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
One voicemail, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I understand I'm fat and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's recording said: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What then? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I do not need money, I have a existence here in Poland, I only wish to discover," the recording stated.
The jury was told that by means of emails, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a attempt to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with law enforcement who gathered the evidence, informed the court there "showed no any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to family friends of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, the father picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I will continue and I plan to establish my point."
The court learned Mrs Spragg struck up a connection online with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in the county in that winter.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had communicated through communication app to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be taken seriously in the months leading up to the appearance to Rothley, Leicestershire, in last December.
The court learned correspondence between the two individuals, in November 2024, discussing attempting to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from silverware at a eating establishment.
"We need to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the visit to their residence, Mrs Spragg sent a message which expressed: "We're currently sat adjacent to the McCanns' house with our lights out similar to detectives. I desired to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The case proceeds.
