Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
