Coach Amorim Pledges He Won't Resign from Manchester United but Accepts Sack Awaits Should Results Fail to Get Better

Ruben Amorim has stated emphatically that he will will not step down from his position despite the team's current difficulties, though he admits that he faces the sack should performances do not turn around.

Present Struggles & Table Standing

Amorim has collected only thirty-four points across 33 Premier League games, and the club now placed 14th in the standings after a 15th-place finish the previous campaign. United have managed only two victories from their opening seven games this season, which includes a shock League Cup defeat against Grimsby as well as last weekend's loss to Brentford. This result extended the manager's search for his first back-to-back Premier League wins since taking over nearly a year previously.

This Saturday, Sunderland FC will visit the Theatre of Dreams, where a further defeat could increase the pressure on Amorim.

The Manager's Position on Resignation

When asked on whether he consider resigning, Amorim stated: “No, that is a decision of the board. I cannot do that. Sometimes I have those thoughts because losing hurts, not to create the momentum. It’s so frustrating when building that momentum, heading into the following match, things go wrong. That emotion often affects me a lot. Also the players and above all the coaching team at the club. Yet it isn't my choice and I think it'd be extremely difficult to leave unless I don’t given everything to follow my career at United.”

“It is an honor to be here and I wish to continue here and I want to fight for success. However the issue now that causes me pain is losing matches, not to lose my job. You fear to lose your job if you need to cover expenses but I don't have that feeling.”

Defending His Formation Tactics

Amorim also offered a spirited defence of his three-at-the-back formation, which has come under fire of much criticism. Amorim has deployed the formation in every game and it is so far failed to provide the consistency desired.

“Nobody here is naive,” Amorim said. “We know that the team need results to continue the project. We'll reach a point that is impossible for everyone because this is a very big club with many partners, under dual ownership. So it’s hard, the balance is really hard. What I want is for the side – in victory or losing – playing the same way and we are failing to do that.”

He noted that United used in different systems with past coaches, also without success. “We need perform with consistency, with equal power, with matching energy, with the required concentration. Should we achieve that, it doesn’t matter which setup we use.”

Plans for Winter Friendlies

He confirmed intentions to arrange lucrative winter friendlies in order to boost revenue missed due to failing to qualify for Europe. “We have to do it as we anticipated after missing out on European football,” he explained. “We owe it to our fans and financial needs and we want to connect with our fans globally.”

Memorial to Manchester Attack

United will observe a minute’s silence this weekend with the squad will wear black armbands as a mark of respect after the tragic incident at a Manchester synagogue on Thursday. Local rivals City will also pay respects during their Premier League and women's matches over the coming days.
